Retired Medically Unfit:
33 yrs old
Medical Prognosis... Never to work again.
"I worked on the frontline all of my career & did everything that was
asked of me. Most of the time I worked alone, I got assaulted many, many
times. When I became sick, there was nothing in place to help.
Looking back, what was offered was a joke. When I was forcefully retired
I was treated very badly, no one seemed to care. The Forum has helped me realise that
it wasn't me. I soon confirmed I was
not alone or the only one treated so poorly"
Compensation: $0.

Retired Medically Unfit:
Early 40's
Medical Prognosis...
. Unable to work 100% T.P.I.
"I was a career frontline cop, I
had planned to stay until my old aged retirement. But I was
forcefully medically retired unfit, against my will, a lot sooner than I
could have ever expected. I became very ill because my work involved me
being continually overloaded with critical incidents and injuries, whilst I
was doing my duty for our community. I urge all Retired Medically Unfit W.A
Police Officers to join us, and get involved in our mission."

43 yrs old
Medical Prognosis....
P.T.S.D. 100% T.P.I
"I
was forcibly retired medically unfit from the WA Police, 25 years of
policing ended just like that. I was abandoned with mounting hospital
and medical bills with no support, financial or otherwise from my employer and
found myself in a downward cycle of isolation and self harm. Members of
this forum found me and I discovered that they understood my behaviour, I am
no longer alone. They have given me a hope of a future, if you are one
of us, don't think twice, just join." |

52 yrs old........... Approx. 5 years to live.
Medical Prognosis.........
Clinical Depression. Bone Marrow Cancer.
"26 years in the W.A. Police.
General Duties, Police Diver, Covert Surveillance, Forensic, Crime Scene
investigator and the Video Support Unit. The filthy crime and disaster
scenes, unsafe chemical labs, exposure to x-rays, microwave surveillance gear
and radars gave me incurable bone-marrow cancer, myeloma."

Retired Medically Unfit:
31 yrs old
Medical Prognosis....
Permanently Injured
"I was very much a career cop until
seriously injured on duty, and was eventually told 'don't come Monday' after 2
years of sick leave and uncountable operations/medical procedures.
I still think I could have remained a valued member of the team; just because
I could no longer run didn't necessarily mean my brain had diminished. I
still miss the job every day of my life. That's sad isn't it?"
Compensation:
No option but to accept a token ex - gratia payment.

Retired Medically Unfit:
54 yrs
Medical Prognosis.... P.T.S.D. 100% T.P.I.
"All I wanted was an apology for what
they did to me,...but they wouldn't do that. So I sued and was
successful. It could all have been avoided with a simple..."Sorry".
It was their choice and they chose to pay up instead of apologising. Thank God for the RMU Forum,
they really do care."

Late 30's
Medical Prognosis....
P.T.S.D. 100% T.P.I.
"I urge all Retired Medically Unfit
W.A. Police Officers to join our group. After a frontline career for
many years, I was forced into early retirement. We are seeking action
from the W.A. State Government, to rectify the pathetic and disgraceful lack
of adequate after-service benefits and compensation. I have not received
one cent for my work related injury. Your membership with our movement
will help change that."

Late 30's
Medical Prognosis.... Chronic
/ Complex P.T.S.D
100% T.P.I. ....Unemployable
"I enjoyed my intended lifelong
career, but was not aware of the effect it was having on me. I
ended up being found in my garden shed crawled up like a cockroach, crying and
trying to hide. I became a forgotten one and ended up living like a
hermit. I was very surprised to recently learn there are many others
like me."

Retired Medically Unfit:
48 yrs old
Medical Prognosis.... P.T.S.D
100% T.P.I.
"I served with W.A.
POLICE FORCE for 26 years and was physically injured whilst doing my duty.
I had a few months off, then some rehab at a local Police Station. While
on sick leave I had to make an arrest outside working hours and I was
assaulted. As a result of that I had breakdown. The Commissioner
of the day said I could not stay on sick leave forever so I was forcefully
discharged. No follow up medical or mental treatment. For the last
9 years I have paid approx $5000 a year, on treatments, out of my own pocket."

Retired Medically Unfit:
55 yrs old
Medical Prognosis.... P.T.S.D
100% T.P.I.
"I served 24 years
plus, mostly on the streets. When I was forced to retire at 55 years of age,
I only got back the super that I had paid in, plus 2%, which was only about
$30,000. I now live off a centrelink pension which doesn't go very far. I am
on a lot of medication and have to pay the gap myself. I wish I had stayed in
the Army because they look after you much better after you have retired."
